As Director of Photography for Bishop’s Stortford College, I worked with a crew of six to produce a series of four videos over five days, highlighting different facets of this prestigious independent school. Using three Canon C70 cameras—two for interviews and one for b-roll—we captured the school’s modern spirit and values through carefully scripted and storyboarded scenes. The main film, “The Modern Face of Independent Education,” along with additional videos on sports, the prep school, and the senior school, aimed to showcase the quality and vibrancy of the college.
We crafted the visual style to emphasize the elegance of the school, its pupils, and facilities. By combining classic b-roll with scripted moments, I aimed to bring polish and refinement that aligns with the school’s reputation. The shoot involved splitting into two teams at times to efficiently cover various locations, and I often used a dolly-mounted camera to add dynamic movement. To achieve a soft, cinematic look, cine filters were used, lifting shadows and creating a gentle aesthetic. My favorite scene to film was in the pool—it perfectly captured the energy and elegance of the school, resulting in a visually stunning moment.
